The first is staying two nights in Port Angeles or Lake Crescent and two nights in Forks. The second is staying in different accommodations almost every night. Luckily this beach never sees much of a crowd, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding a space to park. There is a short but steep trail leading down to the beach. Kalaloch Beach 1 should be on your list of Olympic National Park beaches to visit.However, once you reach the beach, it’s easygoing. Take your time soaking up the scenery, exploring the large tide pools, and watching for the bald eagles’ nest in the trees along the shoreline. In the late winter and early spring of 2008, PTC volunteers rehabilitated a severely neglected railroad bridge off Barker Road, west of Sequim Bay State Park. This bridge, 144 ft in length, required hand removal and replacement of 72 railroad ties, spreading of a concrete deck, and construction of handrail. There is now a scenic overlook with a viewing platform which was made using some of the salvaged railroad ties. A late winter storm and resulting runoff severed the trail at the Dungeness Railroad Bridge trestle.
If you want to go a little higher, which I strongly recommend, hike one of the short trails that start at the parking lot. At Olympic National Park, the roads form a loop around the perimeter of the peninsula, with short access roads that cut towards the center of the park. If you want to see and do everything on this list, you will need a bare minimum of three days and it is best to plan your visit as a road trip.
